WIP Wednesday/YOP: April 24, 2024

First up this week, I’ve got a finished pair of socks to share. These are the Fairy Dance Socks, designed by This Handmade Life, and I knit my pair from Salty Blonde Fiber’s 2-ply Sock in the colorway “Emma” (from the Jane Austen collection she did earlier this year.) I knit the medium size and they are a very fun knit for twisted-stitch lovers. The pattern isn’t difficult but it’s not a super fast knit due to the twisted stitches. I love the final version, however.

On to the things I worked on this week that are still in progress:

  1. I am still knitting around and around on my Musselburgh hat but it looks pretty much the same as last week, so no picture of that.
  2. I finished sleeve 1 on the Halu Sweater and started sleeve 2. There is a pretty lace and bobble detail on the lower sleeve hem of these that matches that of the yoke. I’m hoping to have this one finished up shortly and for sure by the end of the month.
  3. I cast on a pair of Rye Socks using the DK numbers (which is a freebie pattern from TinCanKnits). I’m knitting mine in OnTheRound Merino DK. I’m a bit farther along than the photos; I turned the heel last night so these are shaping up to be another quick knit.
  4. I also cast on a baby sweater. I rarely knit small kiddo things since all the kids in my life are teens and older at this point but I had 2 skeins of worsted weight I thought would play nicely together in a striped sweater, so I’ve cast on the Crozon sweater in the 12-month-old size using Explorer Knits Worsted in Gothic Quarter for the main color and Sangria for the contrast stripes. I thought the colors would be gender neutral and would be a good donation to Wool-Aid.

And last but not least, Winter’s Encounter. I am slowly creeping up towards the “only 10K stitches left” mark which will be kind of a milestone. I’ve put 2800 stitches into the project so far this month and I’m hoping to get a bit more done this weekend on it. The color I’m focusing on right now, which is a pale pink, makes up a lot of the sky and will finish up some of those sections so that will be great to feel like blocks are fully done on this half of the project. That vaguely rectangular shape near the top above the saddle is all the same color, so while it’s not very interesting to stitch, it will fill all that in when I’m done with this color!

  1. Oh wow – ONLY 10,000 stitches! It looks so close to being finished, it’s funny to think that you still have that much to do. Looking great.

  2. Winter’s Encounter is moving along nicely. Do you another full piece waiting for you when this is completed? Those DK socks are pretty. Baby knitting is always fun and quick. This are very gender neutral too. Such a gorgeous sweater! Looks warm and cozy

    1. I actually have SEVERAL full coverage pieces waiting in the wings. Some are really massive so I may try to finish one or two smaller ones next. The sweater is VERY cozy and fluffy 🙂

  3. Goodness me…only 10k stitches left 🤯 that is mind blowing how many stitches are in here. Did I ever tell you it took me more than 10 years to finish one that if I went to count the stitches in it I could probably finish counting them in a couple of minutes 😂. It’s going to be stunning I’m sure. The socks are gorgeous, I do wonder where patterns like that make indentations in your skin you can see when you take them off.

    1. Well.. if it makes you feel better, I’ve been working on this one since 2018? 2017? A WHILE. I’ve never had any issues with patterned socks making indents although I haven’t worn this specific pattern, of course. My guess is if ribbing marks your leg then patterning would too?

  4. The sweater looks very nice. Baby things are always nice to knit and especially if you can find a place to donate them. I need to knit a couple of hats as baby gifts.
