WIP Wednesday/YOP: April 10, 2024

Work and life continue to be overflowing right now, as evidenced by my post last week, where I titled it June 3, apparently no longer knowing what month it is. Here’s what I’ve managed to get worked on this week where we are back to April.

  1. Fairy Dance Socks. Turned the heel on sock one and heading down the foot. The yarn is a perfect summery strawberry pink from Salty Blonde Fibers in the “Emma” colorway on 2-ply Sock. I don’t think I referenced it but these are my “F” socks for my personal Socks A to Z challenge.
  2. I got the fourth column of blocks attached and started attempting to lay out the final column but had more assistance than I knew what to do with, so I’m still working on getting that final column attached. These were originally the Origami blanket blocks but I’ve reconfigured them into a flying geese pattern. Hoping to get these all put together and then I can work on the border in May.
  3. No photo of my progress but I am just about ready to start the hem on the body of my Halu sweater, which is the dark green fluffy sample I’m working on for my friend, Jess. That one has been on my short list and I’d like to get the hem done so I just have sleeves to work on the rest of the month.
  4. Lastly, I finished up the quilt top for the Simply Snails mini quilt. This was a good reintroduction to my sewing machine and whilst the finished top isn’t perfect, I love the colors and am glad I tackled this one before working on other mini quilt kits or a full size one I’ve got waiting in the wings. I need to see if I have a piece of batting that will work and then get started on the quilting of this one.

Finally, Winter’s Encounter is just about at the 85% finished mark. I’m still on target to have this one done this year and I have just under 15K stitches left to go. This week I got to work on colors in the saddle and tack so that’s starting to take shape.

  1. The blanket is awesome. I love the play of colors with the different shades of the backgrounds. Winters encounter is still at the top of my fave lists.

  2. What a pretty sock. I’ve looked at yarn by that dyer but not purchased any – yet. The quilts are very nice. Do you quilt them by hand or by machine?

  3. I love all your projects! They’re all looking great. Though I had a moment of confusion about how your could have too much assistance assembling the blanket… and then I looked closer at the photo. Yup. Cat assistance is not always helpful when crafting. ;-) Super cute, though!

  4. I realise I forgot to comment the other day when I read this. The blankets are both great. How you decide which coloured arrows where is a mystery to me and I’d probably keep switching them constantly. Do you have in mind before you start them where they’ll go?

    1. I laid them out several times and then I pinned them together. I sort of knew where I wanted things laid out – I mostly worked off semi-abstract placing of the turquoise ones since those draw the eye the most.

  5. What an amazing variety of projects you have!! My tiny brain seems to be only able to handle knitting, and not so well at that. The Fairy Dance pattern reminds me of the Scatterby pattern. Love you Simply Snails quilt.
