WIP Wednesday/YOP: March 20, 2024

While it is theoretically spring here, we’re still having below-freezing temps at night so it doesn’t feel a whole lot like spring yet. I planted a large section of daffodils and daylilies last fall right off the deck and I am seeing a few green tips start to poke up so we will see how it looks after a few days of warmer temps we have in the forecast.

On to crafting projects. I have started the slow process of seaming together the blocks for my Origami blanket. Not gonna lie – it’s tedious, so I’m trying to break it into small sessions so I can keep going but not get overwhelmed with it all. No pictures of that because, frankly, it’s really boring right now. Otherwise, I have:

  1. Finished the first of the pair of Stack of Books socks. I have also cast on sock two and zoomed thru the leg and turned the heel. I’m working on the heel gusset and will cruise along on that hopefully to a finish of the pair in the next week.
  2. I started another pair of socks. These are DK-weight, and I always forget how quickly they knit up! The yarn is a self-striping colorway from Freckled Whimsey called Wolfing Out. I finished the leg of sock one this morning (the photo is from yesterday) and put in a Fish Lips Kiss Heel using the contrast-color mini. Hoping to finish sock one of these this week too!
  3. I finished up a couple of Snap hats this week, one using green sock yarn leftovers and the other using pink/purples. These are such a great scrapbuster project. I will likely make oodles more as I’m working through sock yarn stash this year. Quick to knit and I managed to completely use up the ends of 4 different sock yarn skeins! Both of these are going into my Wool-Aid donation box.

I will be casting on a new sample knit for Jess over at Witchfire Fiber. She sent me her 2-ply sock and her Suri laceweight in a lovely dark green (Verdant) to use in Caitlin Hunter’s Halu sweater and I can’t wait to get started on this project. The Suri lends an amazingly soft hand to the project.

Finally, I met my Q1 goal for Winter’s Encounter. I am just over the 82% mark to completion on this one, so will continue on in the hopes of keeping up with a weekly goal to continue moving forward on this one. I still have about 15K stitches left to go, so it’s closer to the finish line, but I have a lot of stitching left to do too!

  1. Excellent progress all around! With spring here, I am lucky to get in a couple rows at night when I’m already too tired to think. If it’s OK, I’m living my knitting life through you at the moment!!!!

  2. Oh, that green sweater yarn! It’s going to be lovely. (And it looks like it will be fun to knit, too, with that Suri.) I love the stripey socks! Lately I’ve been all about self-striping socks. I’m not sure when that obsession of mine will fade, but it hasn’t yet. 😉

  3. Socks in self-striping yarn practically knit themselves. If they are DK weight, they must fly off the needles. The yarns for the new sweater are gorgeous. That will be a fun knit.
