Year of Projects 2022: Week 31

A busy week here, so not much progress on any one thing since I mostly picked up projects in fits and starts in between life things. I did cast on for the second of the Bevy Socks and have worked through the cuff so I’m on to the 3×1 leg ribbing. I’ve got a visit with a friend planned for tomorrow, so I’ll have that easy part to work on while we visit.

I also started a new project using a multicolored skein and a set of tonal/gradient-ish minis. My husband got me a “summer” advent box for my birthday (which was this week) and I while it was technically for the Summer Solstice, I waited to open the packages until after July started, and then cast this on for my birthday. The yarn is from Rebel Woolworks (and sadly, I think she has closed her business after some awful issues caused by her Instagram and business accounts being hacked, so I’m not sure you will find her on the web anymore) and is the Sahale sock base (100% superwash merino). I’m using the pattern Softly Spoken by Janina Kallio of Woolenberry to knit this. (I also have other minis from this box, but will use those for other projects at a later date). I’ve got the first section done and started the next part which is the first of the minis. The lace pattern is fairly simple (only a 4-row repeat and 2 of those rows are just “purl back on the WS”) and I’m enjoying these very fall-ish colors.

And finally! I finished up the 4-color set of handspun I’ve been working on this month. The original fiber is a mixed BFL (so natural/cream blended with a swirl of brown) overdyed in the “Persimmon” colorway by Greenwood Fiberworks. Each of the 4 colors was a 1-ounce braid, and I had two batches, so I was able to spin each 1-oz and then ply those for a 2-oz skein. These are all 2-ply, fingering weight skeins. I wound up with a total of 852 yards and the skeins are all about 200 +/- yards each. I don’t have a “for sure” pattern decided on to use these with, but I did narrow down my options to a handful of good ones to pick from, as one of my goals for the fall is to try to make at least one handspun project a quarter.

That’s it for me this week. I did make a bit of progress on my Desert Mandala project but not enough to show really, so will have updates on that next weekend!
