A couple of finished things first for this week. I finished up the Timberland Hat I had been working on. I had two half-skeins of The Unique Sheep’s Sushi Socks in stash that were originally part of a sock kit from eons ago. I loved the colors (palest silver and a royal blue) but I didn’t see myself knitting the sock pattern they came with, and so….. they languished in stash until now. The yarn, however, was a delight to work with. Soft and wooly-feeling (in a good way) but with a hand that almost felt like silk rather than bamboo. This pattern is a great one for using up half (or less) skeins of sock yarn and I’m really glad these yarns have a purpose in life and are out of my stash. I used about 35 grams of the light color and only about 18 grams of the dark, so you could easily work this from sock remnants.
I also finished up the second of the By Naughty Design socks pair. I finished the first one back in January and was glad to get these completed finally. The pattern is by Hunter Hammersen and has a lot of nice details. Lots of twisted stitches too, so you’d need to be a fan of those if you’d like a pair for yourself. The yarn is from Long Dog Yarns, their Bounce Sock, and I really like how the herb-y green compliments the leaf and vine design on the socks.
I have also been working away on the 3-Color Cashmere Cowl using 3 half-skeins of Spud and Chloe Fine (which is a fingering weight) from deep stash. I have the first of 5 sections done, and I’ll be adding in the third color when I get back to work on this one this week.
In non-knitting projects, I finally finished spinning the singles of the Oceanwind Knits superwash merino roving (colorway is “1967”) so I’m ready to start plying this spin as the next step. I love these soft gray’ed colors.
And last but not least, I have been working on the right-side landscape vignette on Desert Mandala. With this week’s stitching, I am officially over the 50% mark on this one! Sticking with it to see what kind of progress I can continue to make towards my year goal of a finish.
That’s it for this week YOP’ers – hope your May is shaping up wonderfully!
