Year of Projects 2021-2022: Week 1 Update

Off to a good start, although a bit misleading since I did start the Lightweight Hipster scarf (Ravelry link) before July 1 as I wanted to use it for another challenge’s project. It’s actually completely finished and blocked – I did the last bits on July 1 to turn in as a finished piece for the Quidditch match #4 in the Harry Potter Group. Very happy with this one. I used up almost every yard of the skein of Sock Pixie Pure Merino (colorway Chicory Fairy). This had languished in stash for over a decade and honestly, I’m not sure why. The non-superwash merino was soft and lovely to work with, and the handpaint was a very subtle one with teal-y blues and greens. I’m on the fence about whether to keep this (I think it’d be fun in the neckline of a denim jacket I wear a lot in the fall) or if it’s going into the giveaway box.

I also cast on two other YOP projects this week: the Frostwork Scarf by Susanna IC (Ravelry link), which I’m knitting in Berocco’s Ultra Alpaca in a winter white

and the Foss for Women sweater by Jennifer Toland (Ravelry link) using the Woodsong Farm’s hand-dyed Finn/CVM fingering weight from their farm store.

I’ve also been slowly spinning more singles for the Tour de Fleece. While I haven’t had a ton of time to devote to spinning, I AM at least sticking to my 15 minutes a day goal. I’ll be working on this last 2 oz of singles for a while and probably will have a few days where I don’t spin when we’re camping this month, but it is amazing how much little bits of time add up over an entire month (or year).

Happy with what I’ve accomplished for this first week!

  1. All your projects look great! The yarn you are spinning is beautiful. The scarf is so pretty. I look forward to seeing how the fingering sweater turns out. I pretty much only knit in fingering.

  2. I think your idea of the Hipster Scarf around the neckline of a denim jacket is spot on. Your two new cast ons are great. Love the cables on the scarf and the color of the sweater is very pretty. Your spinning looks really nice too. Such pretty colors in it.

    1. Thank you – I love knitting cables. I should film a few more technique videos just for you then, so you can tackle them as well. IKR? I can’t believe I hadn’t used that pretty yarn for something in the last decade and a half!

  3. Welcome!!! I faved all your projects! LOL! I too love reading and planning and listmaking and collecting beautiful yarns like the ones you are knitting with! Gorgeous projects and colors too! You have inspired me!

  4. Your spinning is so even, I’m green with envy. lol. Do keep the Hipster shawl, it will look amazing with a denim jacket.

  5. Yes, I try to spin about 1/2 ounce a day during TdF. It does add up quickly. Love the shawl. And the stitch definition on your cables for your sweater really pop!

  6. Welcome to YOPing! I love the colors in your Hipster Scarf, and I imagine it perfect worn as you described – with a denim jacket. So many pretty things you’re working on. I look forward to seeing your creations during the upcoming YOP year. 🙂

  7. I love your projects and I say if the colors of the shawl flatter you it should definitely stay in the keep pile! Your spinning is also lovely! Can’t wait to see that FO

  8. Welcome to YOP! Your current projects are so lovely! I have started a couple fingering weight sweaters… but have never finished an adult sized one!
